Kaizer Chiefs could pick up a second consecutive Soweto derby win when they face Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Saturday.

Amakhosi eliminated the Buccaneers from the Telkom Knockout quarter-finals a week ago on penalties. It was not the most glamorous of wins for the Glamour Boys, but they did enough to get over the line.

Chiefs then defeated Chippa United 2-0 in midweek while Orlando Pirates were held to a 0-0 draw by Maritzburg United.

Rhulani Mokwena finds himself under pressure to deliver a favourable result without his captain, Happy Jele, who is suspended after his red card against Maritzburg United.

“We will miss the captain (Jele). He’s the integral part; he plays the important part in the team,” Mokwena said.

“But we have 33 other important players and some will get the responsibility to replace Happy (Jele) at centre-back.

“Someone will get the opportunity because that’s how football works sometimes. In the absence of somebody the opportunity arises for somebody else.

“In a squad like ours‚ which is rich in depth‚ the players will make sure that they take the opportunity.”

Chiefs are seven points clear at the top of the table heading into matchday 11, although second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns have a game in hand. Bidvest Wits sit 10 points behind with four games in hand.

Kick-off time and prediction

Kick-off time: Saturday 9 November at 15:30

Prediction: Kaizer Chiefs were not at their best in the last Soweto derby, but still scraped through on penalties. Their form is significantly better than that of Orlando Pirates and they are bound to have the upper hand in terms of confidence, especially having broken their duck against the Buccaneers.

Kaizer Chiefs are predicted to claim a comfortable 2-0 victory at FNB Stadium.
