Kaizer Chiefs are NOT off the hook as they still have to face the PSL Disciplinary Committee despite their case being before the arbitration.

The Soweto giants were charged by the league for not honouring two of their December 2021 fixtures due to Covid-19.

This was after the PSL’s rejection of Amakhosi’s request to have their matches postponed – Chiefs took the matter to the South African Football Association (SAFA) for arbitration.

The initial sitting had to be recheduled for 25 February; a date which would have been after the arbitration that was set for 9 February 2022.

However, the arbitration was postponed to 15-16 March 2022, and with 25 February on Friday, the league has an obligation to still go ahead with the sitting.

But while the sitting is going ahead as planned, PSL prosecutor advocate Zola Majavu confirmed that the hearing could again be postponed.

And that’s because the PSL DC has to wait for the arbitrator’s verdict on the Chiefs appeal before they can do anything about the matter.

The two parties – Chiefs and the PSL – agreed on advocate Nazeer Cassim SC as their arbitrator for this long-drawn battle.

PSL PROSECUTOR MAJAVU CONFIRMS KAIZER CHIEFS HEARING IS STILL ON

“The matter concerning Kaizer Chiefs will indeed be before the DC on the 25th of February 2022, whereafter it may well be postponed further and the basis that the arbitration has yet to finalise,” said Majavu in a statement.

“However, the matter must still be ventilated before the PSL DC which would then give further directives as they deem fit,” added Majavu.
