Blom’s contract expires in June 2023, and he has already been linked with a number of clubs, including SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, Matsatsantsa have already ruled themselves out of the race to sign Blom as they believe his salary is way too much for their funding model.

Should Chiefs continue to drag their feet in securing Blom’s future, the 22-year-old would be eligible to sign a pre-contract with a club of his choice in January.

Now, SuperSport United CEO Stanley Matthews said while SuperSport United cannot sign Blom, clubs such as Orlando Pirates and Sundowns can afford him.

Pirates have not been linked with Blom yet but Matthews predicts that they will be a tug of war with Sundowns over the utility star.

And according to Matthews, that’s a war SuperSport United are not willing to get involved in at this stage.

KAIZER CHIEFS STAR BLOM’S FUTURE PREDICTED

“He’s going to be a player that the big three are going to fight over, and we can’t go into that war – I can’t go into a gunfight with a pocket knife. We have a different model of recruiting and identifying players,” Matthews told SABC Sport.

“That means respecting the budget parameters my shareholders, have even me. We simply can’t afford Blom, and I feel terrible even talking about a player that belongs to Chiefs.

“We have never been contenders to sign him, there’s no real prospect of him ever playing for the club,” added Matthews.
