Kaizer Chiefs will most certainly be a busy club this January, with players expected to move in both directions.

Their much-publicized search for new strikers might weaken their bargaining position and push up prices. However, they could offset that by getting a few high earners off their wage bill.

Nine players that could leave Kaizer Chiefs this January

Njabulo Blom

It’s the elephant in the room. The longer 22-year-old Njabulo Blom refuses to put pen to paper on a new contract with Amakhosi, the more likely it is that he may leave the club. It’s still extremely uncertain how this situation will play out, but there’s definitely a chance he could leave. Chiefs fans around the continent will praying that he doesn’t.

KHAMA AT CHIEFS: Comparing Billiat to his Sundowns and Ajax versions

Khama Billiat

It’s safe to say that Khama Billiat has not enjoyed the best form of his career with Chiefs. 47 goals in 140 appearances for Sundowns was by far Billiat’s best strike ratio throughout his club career. 0.34 goals per game is a respectable goal-scoring rate for a man who operated mainly in wide areas or behind a conventional striker. Now, he’s scoring at a rate of 0.20 goals per game, the worst ratio of his club career. If Billiat moves on, the club’s accountants will be relieved to get his massive wages off the balance sheet.

Thabani Dube hasn’t played a single minute for Amakhosi this term, despite arriving as a highly-rated prospect from Richards Bay. There are plenty of players ahead of him in the pecking order, too, so he’s likely to leave. Eric Mathoho, a legit cult hero in Kaizer Chiefs circles, is also unlikely to be at Naturena in 2023-24. “Tower” is now 32 years old and Chiefs will be grateful to him for his legendary service.
