As we all learned, Kaizer Chiefs have parted with Bernard Parker and Daniel Cardoso as last season’s captains.

A new man will be leading Amakhosi out of the tunnels next season. Let’s check out the possible candidates.

LET’S TALK ITUMELENG KHUNE

Firstly let’s discuss Itumeleng Khune. The 35-year-old veteran is still favoured and respected by many, but honestly, it will be a surprise if he starts the first game of the season on 6 August.

The Ventersdorp-born player will certainly get an opportunity to play in the new season.

We expect that to be in cup games and once “Mzansi’s number one” fully retains his fitness, but Brandon Peterson and Bruce Bvuma look way fitter at this moment.

With the old-head and hard-man types of captains gone out of the Naturena gate, Amakhosi will surely be going for a different type of captain next term.

  • Dolly – The 29-year-old is not a typical leader, but qualifies as the superstar type of captain.
  • Billiat – Similarly to Dolly, the 31-year-old Zimbabwean is not a traditional leader but is your talent and ability type of skipper.
  • Zitha Kwinika – The returning prodigal son from Soweto’s Meadowlands is 28 years old but captained Stellenbosch FC to fourth place last season and in a squad filled with plenty of players aged 30+.
  • Yusuf Maart – The 27-year-old from Atlantis in the Western Cape wore the armband at Sekhukhune United ahead of old heads like Willard Katsande and Edwin Gyimah.

So who will be chatting with the officials ahead of the coin toss on Saturday 6 August against Royal AM in Chatsworth? We imagine coach Arthur Zwane already knows.
