Kaizer Chiefs’ new big need, not a striker

Kaizer Chiefs’ hunt for a striker has been so public we’re going to talk about it for years. However, there’s a new big hole in the team.

So much has been said about Kaizer Chiefs’ search for a number nine, but is it the most urgent? It seems not.

FIVE REASONS KAIZER CHIEFS NEED A LEFT-BACK

The past week’s news has clearly changed the balance in coach Arthur Zwane’s squad. The club announced another departure while another exit is reportedly coming before the window’s closing.

FIVE reasons for a new left-back signing:

  1. Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya was the first left-back departure last month, he has since joined Sekhukhune United.
  2. The 23-year-old Sibusiso Mabiliso followed in Ntiya-Ntiya’s footsteps after a mutual agreement. He failed to convince Gavin Hunt, Stuart Baxter, and Arthur Zwane.
  3. Sifiso Hlanti, 32, is still unfit since early last season.
  4. The club’s new left-footed defender, Edmilson Dove ,has been signed to play as a central defender, not as a number three as some people have claimed.
  5. The superbly technical and intelligent Happy Mashiane, 24, is linked with a loan move to Swallows where he will earn enough game time to confirm if he is a full-back, midfielder, or a winger.
It really seems like the right idea for Mashiane to go define himself elsewhere on loan. Image: @KaizerChiefs / Twitter

In the meantime, Wednesday’s fresh report says the Glamour Boys could sign Cape Town City’s dynamic left-back Terrence Mashego.

STRIKER REMAINS A NEED

Meanwhile, Zwane still needs a number nine but this task has now seemingly taken second priority behind the left-back position.

For now, the likes of Ashley Du Preez and Khama Biliat, for the center forward position, would not be a disaster until the January transfer window, but only if Amakhosi fail to find a traditional striker before the transfer window deadline on  22 September.
