Kaizer Chiefs game moved to Cape Town

Remember the fan chaos that happened in Stellenbosch this season? A Kaizer Chiefs game is thus moving to Cape Town.

No more Kaizer Chiefs in Stellenbosch. The official decision follows after Amakhosi supporters nearly turned the small Western Cape town and its stadium upside down in August.

KAIZER CHIEFS FANS OVERWHELM THE DANIE CRAVEN STADIUM

Minimum security is simply not adequate enough to manage Amakhosi fans. Not only did the fanbase rattle the tightly small town of Stellenbosch, the Danie Craven Stadium pitch barriers got pushed to the ground.

As The South African reported in August, Chiefs ended up with a R200 000 fine from the PSL after the supporters invaded the pitch in the MTN8 quarter-final win over Stellies.

AMAKHOSI GAME MOVED TO CAPE TOWN

As a result of the August event, Stellies coach Steve Barker confirmed next week’s game is to be played at the Cape Town Stadium.

“I think it’s best to play Chiefs, after the last time, at Cape Town Stadium,” Barker said via iDiski Times

“So, looking forward to two games in a week. Cape Town Stadium, we’re quite familiar with it. We’ve played a number of times there.

“Six points on hand at home in the next week, hopefully we can maximise. There are players that live out that side. It is home from home.

“Obviously, ideally, you would want to be playing every game in Stellenbosch but we understand the reasoning and the thought behind not playing it there.

“It’s always a nice occasion hosting Chiefs, always a big crowd, it just adds to the occasion,” Barker added.
