CAPE TOWN CITY 2-0 KAIZER CHIEFS

After making a single change in midfield with Phathutshedzo Nange coming in for the suspended Yusuf Maart, the Glamour Boys simply failed to shine against the Cityzens.

The goals of the night came via Venezuelan forward Darwin Gonzalez in the fifth minute, before the towering Congolese defender Nathan Fasika made it 2-0 on 62 minutes.

AMAKHOSI PLAYER RATINGS

  • Brandon Petersen, 6: Unfortunately conceded two goals. Rescued by Njabulo Ngcobo for a third after coming out for a corner.
  • Dillan Solomons, 6.5: Moved to the right areas but was denied space for most of the game.
  • Zitha Kwinika, 6: Showed less organisation and forward ball-carries than he displayed in the previous two games.
  • Siyabonga Ngezana, 4.5: Obstructed Petersen in the first goal and was caught sleeping in the second goal, was good in carrying the ball out of defence into midfield.
  • Njabulo Ngcobo, 7: Made a superb goal-line clearance and several key blocks. Chiefs’ best defender on the night.
  • Reeve Frosler, 5: Was denied spaces to attack before an injury forced him out after 26 minutes.
  • Phathutshedzo Nange, 5: Looked flat, nervous, unfit, and played too many backward passes.
  • Siyethemba Sithebe, 5: Failed to affect the game as the heartbeat of the team in Maart’s absence.
  • Kgaogelo Sekgota, 8: Chiefs’ best forward player on the night. Ran at defenders all night. Made a great shot that was saved by Darren Keet.
  • Keagan Dolly, 5: His final passes were either too hard, late or just the wrong decisions.
  • Khama Billiat, 5: Denied spaces to turn. Could not hold up play. Can’t play with his back to goal. Suffered as the center forward against Fasika and Taariq Filies.

Substitutes:

  • Happy Mashiane, 7: Delivered consistently sharp forward passes and pinned back Thamsanqa Mkhize.
  • Lehlogonolo Matlou, 5: Failed to break any lines and City’s high press. Did not find a single pass to his forwards.
  • Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, 6: Combined well with Mashiane to send through Billiat. Found himself free spaces but not enough of the ball.

Coming up next for the Glamour Boys is a trip to the Cape Winelands to battle Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 quarter-finals on Sunday.
