Kaizer Chiefs have shown to be capable of major shocking appointments just like Orlando Pirates. Take the return of Ernst Middendorp to Amakhosi as an example.

Did anyone also foresee Stuart Baxter returning to replace Gavin Hunt last season?

So Arthur Zwane, assisted by Dillion Sheppard, have been given a trial to prove themselves until the end of the season. Meanwhile, the Motaung’s will be watching while also eyeing bigger, proven candidates from the outside.

KAIZER CHIEFS’ EXPECTED CANDIDATES TO REPLACE BAXTER

As we’ve read across local media, there have been a list of coaches who are expected to be in the run-in to replace the departed Baxter.

They include Benni McCarthy and Arthur Zwane moving from assistant to head coach. Another mentioned candidate has even been Cavin Johnson, whose appointment would be rather unexpected considering his track record and pedigree.

With that said, here are four high-profile coaches that are worth mentioning based on proven success in the PSL and the continent.

FOUR POTENTIAL SURPRISE CANDIDATES

1. Pitso Mosimane

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach is under pressure to lift the CAF Champions League and the Egyptian Premier League. As it stands, Mosimane’s side is not the same invincible outfit we saw last season.

2. Roger de Sa

The former Orlando Pirates coach has said he is set to sit down with the Egypt FA to discuss his future as their assistant coach. Meanwhile, the head coach Carlos Quieroz has left. We expect de Sa to return to Mzansi.

3. Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic

Another former Pirates coach, the Serb would be a massive surprise, but football is full of those. Micho is currently coaching the Ugandan national side.

4. Ruud Krol

The third former Pirates coach on this list is the Dutchman with the lucky orange shirt. Krol has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs before and has been out of work since 2019 after leaving Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien.

So will the Motuang’s stick with Zwane and Sheppard next season or bring in another experienced coach? Even they probably don’t know at this stage. Zwane and Sheppard will help them make the decision.
