Kaizer ChiefsNjabulo Ngcobo joined the club as a classy central defender, but now it seems his playing future is in the central midfield position, or maybe it’s just under Stuart Baxter.

As coach Baxter has previously stated in the media after placing Ngcobo in midfield, the former Uthongathi and Swallows FC star is just not really his type of number five.

“If he wants to play at centre back, he will play at centre back, if he is the best centre back we have,” Baxter said in February.

He is not [the best] at the moment and I put him at centre midfield. I would think he wants to play wherever selected which is the indication he has given to me,” the Brit added.

“I am sure his preference is centre back but he has got to prove that he is the best for that job. He has had a few injuries and he has been up and down and it hasn’t been easy for him in his first season at Kaizer Chiefs.”

NGCOBO FOCUSED ON HIS NEW ROLE AT KAIZER CHIEFS

Ahead of facing Chippa United in the DStv Premiership on Saturday 2 April, the 27-year-old player has revealed his determined focus in the new role.

“I think I am just a player who is working hard, especially learning a new position – I am doing okay, for now,” Ngcobo told the club’s media as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“But there’s still room for improvement. I am just a hard-working player,” he concluded.
