Kaizer Chiefs target Zungu makes statement that will worry Amakhosi

It’s not secret, Kaizer Chiefs want Bongani Zungu’s signature. The player has now made a comment that should stress the Amakhosi fanbase.

Kaizer Chiefs target Bongani Zungu might never become an Amakhosi player after all. The Gauteng-born star has expressed loyalty towards Mamelodi Sundowns.

ZUNGU SAYS SUNDOWNS IS HIS HOME

Speaking to local media this past week, Zungu was asked whether he could be the next overseas-based player to return home?

The Duduza-born star said it is not impossible to resume his DStv Premiership career, but extending his stay abroad is the first priority.

“I would consider staying abroad and playing here for as long as possible,” Zungu said in the latest issue of Soccer Laduma.

“It’s not to say I am closing the door on returning to the Premier Soccer League, no. That door is still open.”

Without much prompting, Zungu added to say that Sundowns is his home, a statement that should feel like a stabbing blow to Kaizer Chiefs fans.

“Mamelodi Sundowns is my home. I have met president Patrice Mostepe [now CAF president] a few times while I was still playing for the club and he said it himself that Sundowns will always be my home.”

“But for now, my agent and I believe I can still have a couple of more years here abroad,” the 29-year-old added.

Do Kaizer Chiefs have the creme-de la-creme quality in central midfield? The answer is no.
