Sundowns-Chiefs player ratings, including 1/10 performance

Kaizer Chiefs have crashed back to Earth. Arthur Zwane’s Amakhosi got put to the sword with a 4-0 beating from Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus.

Kaizer Chiefs fans must have all gone to bed by 18:00. The mighty Amakhosi were humiliated 4-0 by PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

As The South African website reported on Saturday, the supreme Kabo Yellow made a mockery of Amakhosi, courtesy of goals from Gaston Sirino, Peter Shalulile (brace), and Abubeker Nassir.

Without too much further chat about the result, let’s get into the player ratings.

PLAYER RATINGS:

Chiefs:

  1. Bruce Bvuma, 4 – Mostly got busy taking the ball out of the net.
  2. Dillan Solomons, 7 – Was threatening and combative despite the big trail.
  3. Zitha Kwinika, 5 – Had a mixed performance. Good at moments and Chiefs’ best defender on the day. 
  4. Siyabonga Ngezana, 1 – Made a complete howler to gift Sundowns a goal and again a penalty.
  5. Reeve Frosler, 5 – Could have defended better and was not threatening in attack either.
  6. Alexander Cole – Had an early chance to score but scuffed his shot before going out at half-time.
  7. Njabulo Blom, 4 – Did not affect the game enough, mostly a passenger.
  8. Yusuf Maart, 5 – Made endless tackling and passing mistakes. 
  9. Siyethemba Sithebe, 5 – Was hardly seen on the ball for a midfielder.
  10. Keagan Dolly, 7 – Chiefs’ best player in the first half but faded.
  11. Khama Biliat, 7 – Also started well but disappeared as things got worse.

Substitutes

  • Njabulo Ngcobo, 4 – Skinned alive by Nassir for Sundowns’ fourth goal.
  • Kgaogelo Sekgota, 7 – Was threatening before winning a penalty but missed a great chance on 81 minutes.
  • Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, 5- Did not really influence the game or created a chance.

Sundowns:

  1. Ronwen Williams, 8 – Was not really made busy. Did brilliantly to save Billiat’s penalty.
  2. Khuliso Mudau, 8 – Great timing on tackles and initiated attacks.
  3. Brian Onyango, 7 – Solid with not a lot to keep him busy from Chiefs.
  4. Rushwin De Reuck, 7 – Was mostly well-positioned and safe.
  5. Aubrey Modiba, 7 – Had a great game before he was taken off on 80 minutes.
  6. Andile Jali, 5 – Suffered a hamstring injury after 60 minutes.
  7. Tebogo Mokoena, 8 – Superb game. Hardly put a foot wrong.
  8. Neo Maema, 8 – Excellent positioning and quick movement of the ball.
  9. Themba Zwane, 8 – Was literally the brain behind Sundowns’ attacking movements.
  10. Gaston Sirino, 8 – Did superbly to change the game by pressing Ngezana for the opener.
  11. Peter Shalulile, 9 – Scored a brace before taking home the Man of the Match award.

Substitutes

  • Lyle Lakay, 5 – More of a tactical change. Did not deliver any highlights.
  • Sphelele Mkhulise, 5 – In to keep shape and stability with 30 minutes to go.
  • Lesedi Kapinga, 5 – Did not enjoy enough ball possession.
  • Tapelo Morena, 5 – Was not involved much, another control substitute.
  • Abubeker Nassir – Brilliant debut goal. Turned Ngcobo inside out before smashing home with his left.
