Reports from the Royal AM camp suggest that the PSL newcomers will continue to reap the rewards of their crushing victory over Kaizer Chiefs this weekend – and major bonuses have been lined up for the players.

Kaizer Chiefs endure dismal start to PSL season

They turned the Soweto giants over 4-1, stunning the rest of the PSL in the process. The result sent shockwaves across South Africa, as Amakhosi conceded four in a league game for the first time in 16 years. Coach Stuart Baxter is already under pressure following Chiefs’ unconvincing start to the campaign, and the unrest has soared this week.

Kaizer Chiefs find themselves in an embarrassing 12th place in the standings after four matches – thanks to a single win, two defeats, and a draw. They have already leaked seven goals, scoring just three themselves.

Celebrations from Royal AM staff after beating Kaizer Chiefs

Royal AM, meanwhile, are loving life in the PSL. After inheriting Bloemfontein Celtic’s place in the top flight, the Pietermaritzburg-based club are up to fifth spot – and they weren’t shy when it came to celebrating Saturday’s win.

Royal AM players ‘set for huge bonuses’

The flashy duo orchestrating Royal AM’s debut season in the PSL – owner Shauwn Mkhize and club chairperson Andile Mpisane – are more than happy to flaunt their financial muscle. After uploading videos of their luxury cars to social media this weekend, the pair have decided to share their wealth with the rest of the team.

That’s according to a report in The Citizen, where an internal club source told the publication that ‘players will get big bonuses for that win’. It’s understood that certain ‘significant victories’ will be rewarded handsomely by Mkhize and Mpisane throughout the season, and it doesn’t get much bigger than humbling Kaizer Chiefs.

Victor Letsoalo, who scored twice on Saturday, could be set to pocket the most generous bonus of them all – but at this point, details of the rewards remain sketchy. Let’s put it this way, though – these lads will all be ‘well looked after’.
