Kaizer Chiefs news | Baxter says Ngcobo & Dube aren’t ready to play yet

Kaizer Chiefs fans may have to wait much longer to see both Njabulo Ngcobo and Thabani Dube marshal the team’s defence.

And that’s if Stuart Baxter’s assessment of the two new centre-backs are anything go by after saying the timing is important in their case.

For the past six years, Chiefs have had to rely heavily on the centre-back pairing of Erick Mathoho and Daniel Cardoso.

However, the experienced duo have sometimes looked shaky, especially against opponents who use speedy attackers.

And Baxter said while both Ngcobo and Dube are trying really hard to settle in at Chiefs, they still need time to understand his tactics.

“I think, look, it’s all about timing, and you’ve got two centre-backs (Ngcobo and Dube) who’ve arrived who are really trying to settle in quickly,” Baxtet told reporters.

“They’re trying to convince everybody that they are Chiefs players. When I say that, I mean mentally and socially.

“And now tactically, they’ve got to get on board. That may take some time,” said Baxter.

Furthermore, Baxter admitted that both Mathoho and Cardoso, as experienced as they are, may not make it easy for the new signings to dislodge them.

“I think Tower and Dan are very experienced players,” he continued.

“So, they don’t want to be shifted quickly but it does create that competition so we have to make sure that everybody is giving a good performance so that they earn their place in the team,” added Baxter.

Chiefs travel to the Mpumalanga province to take on TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
