Based on the results from the six DStv Premiership matches and one MTN8 game, it has been a mixed start with three wins, three defeats, and a single draw.

According to the leading stats website Transfermarkt, Amakhosi used the following formations in the seven games since the start of the 2022/23 season:

  1. Royal AM 1-0 loss: 4-2-3-1
  2. Maritzburg 3-0 win: 4-3-3
  3. Sundowns 4-0 loss: 4-3-3
  4. Richards Bay 1-0 win: 4-3-3
  5. Cape Town City 2-0 loss: 3-4-3
  6. Stellenbosch 1-1 draw, 5-4 penalties win: 4-3-3
  7. AmaZulu 0-0 draw: 4-2-3-1.

Based on the results, the 4-3-3 system has delivered the most positive results. However, Zwane is expected to try new structures after the arrivals of Edmilson Dove and Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana.

Should one or both of the new players impress at training and on the matchday grass, Zwane will be forced to try new systems to fit one or both players.

Dove will give Zwane the options to play with a back three or four, while Bimenyimana will allow for formations that have two strikers and just himself upfront.

Whatever formation Zwane will favour in the near future, it will be determined by the players. The best performers will leave the coach with the responsibility to fit them all in.
