Kaizer Chiefs likely new captain REVEALED!

Kaizer Chiefs may need to select a new captain after Keagan Dolly picked up an injury. Itumeleng Khune is also no longer first choice. Here’s the next likely captain!

Itumeleng Khune is Amakhosi’s captain. However, he is currently the second choice keeper. Brandon Peterson is the first choice goalkeeper.

Meaning, Amakhosi have to select a new captain moving forward. Keagan Dolly is the man who is usually handed the captains armband. However, he is now injured, according to iDiskiTimes.

CHIEFS FUTURE CAPTAIN CANDIDATES

Zwane is well aware of the fact that he needs back-up to Khune and Dolly. So, a few months ago he outlined the future vice-captains of Amakhosi.

“You look at a player like Keagan Dolly, you look at Khama, you look at Yusuf Maart, you look at many other players you can mention. The list is long of players who have those leadership skills,” Zwane stated on iDiskiTimes.

DOLLY INJURY SCARE

So, Dolly is the frontrunner to replace Khune but he may be out of action after sustaining a knee injury against Sekhukhune United.

“We’ll wait for the medical team for the report, then we’ll take it from there,” the source added,

Zwane threw a surprise name into the hat – Zitha Kwinika.

“When you look at a player like Zitha Macheke who has been part of the team from the development then we obviously had to let him go and he came back a different player with more experience. So he has those leadership qualities and he was the captain at Stellenbosch,” he added.

That brings us Khama Billiat, Maart and Kwinika as potential replacements. Billiat is likely to leave at the end of the season.

Therefore, Maart and Kwinika are likely to battle it out to become Amakhosi’s future captain. Surprisingly, Kwinika was dropped to the bench meaning if Dolly is unavailable for selection, Maart is likely to be the stand-in captain.

KHUNE IS NOT DONE YET

Amakhosi legend and icon Khune is not done yet.

His contract may be expiring at the end of season but he is likely to earn a contract extension.

Meaning, Khune will fight to earn his starting spot back and he may still have a good run as captain in him.
