Two-team race for 2021/22 DStv Premiership title? NO say the ‘experts’!

Kaizer Chiefs supporters are basking in an improved run of form – and results – of late for their team which have seen the Soweto giants move to second place in the DStv Premiership standings.

The past few weeks have given Amakhosi fans belief that their beloved Glamour Boys could challenge for what would be their first league title since the 2014/15 season.

A look at the log shows Mamelodi Sundowns ahead by eight points having played one match fewer than second-placed Kaizer Chiefs.

Amakhosi currently lie in what would be a CAF Champions League spot, but are only a single point ahead of third-placed Royal AM – having played one more match.

However, leading South African bookmakers Hollywoodbets don’t see Kaizer Chiefs as realistic challengers to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Tshwane giants are overwhelming 1/9 favourites to secure a fifth consecutive league title – and 12th overall since the start of the PSL era in the 1996/97 season.

Kaizer Chiefs are a distant second at 10/1, followed by Royal AM (16/1) and Stellenbosch FC (25/1).

Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United are both on offer at 33/1 with Orlando Pirates somewhat generously available at 40/1.

It therefore appears at best that Kaizer Chiefs will have to settle once again for the runner-up spot and a spot in the following season’s CAF Champions League.

DStv Premiership relegation battle is a 4-team race

Meanwhile, in the DStv Premiership relegation battle, Hollywoodbets are unable to separate four teams who appear to be destined for a season-long ding-dong fight to avoid the drop.

Baroka FC, Swallows, TS Galaxy and Marumo Gallants are the sides who will keep their supporters biting their nails until the final day of the season.
