Eric Mathoho to leave Kaizer Chiefs

Mathoho has played just one minute of one league action this season. According to iDiski Times, the 33-year-old veteran won’t be offered a contract extension when his current deal expires at the end of June.

Erick Mathoho is unlikely to be offered a new deal and looks set to leave Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season when his current contract expires, iDiski Times has learnt.

Mathoho has featured in over 250 appearances for Amakhosi and undoubtedly goes down as a club legend. The veteran defender recently reflected on the strange injury setback that prevented him from making a return to action this month.

“The way I got my (latest) injury, we were playing a friendly match with the DDC… I was sprinting and after that I tried to tackle the ball. But the way I landed it was somehow (wrong).

“I didn’t even know whether it was a hamstring or joint because my leg was painful, but after that I went for a scan and they found something there in my groin… The doctor said I would be out for four to five weeks but so far I feel much better, I’m on three weeks now. I started to jog last week.”

“Chiefs, by all accounts, will finally say goodbye to one of their soldiers, who along with Itumeleng Khune are the sole survivors that won two league titles in Stuart Baxter’s first stint,” the outlet added.

One defender who will be arriving at Naturena in July is Botswana skipper Thatayaone Ditlhokwe. The 24-year-old arrives from SuperSport and is expected to make a big impact in the heart of defence.
