Kaizer Chiefs are believed to have decided what they would like to do with regards to a key player’s future.

Chiefs could be bracing themselves for a R20 million bid from Portuguese side Vitoria SC for forward Ashley du Preez.

Vitoria interested in du Preez

Du Preez has been at Chiefs for two seasons now, but has hardly set the scene alight since joining. The speedster joined Amakhosi from Stellenbosch FC, in a deal that is believed to have been R10 million. To be fair to the player, it has not been a great period for the club either. With a team who have made five managerial changes in five years. He is also set for his fourth different coach at the club in three years.

This publication reported last week that a few teams in the Portugal topflight were willing to pay R20 million. The club was eventually revealed. Now according to Soccer-Laduma Chiefs have made a decision on whether or not to sell du Preez.

Chiefs willing to sell on one condition

“As much as they (Chiefs) were willing to let him (du Preez) go as they won’t stand in the way of a player who has a chance to go to Europe, they are first looking to find a replacement so that they are not left short in that department. Obviously if it’s a good deal like that of Siya (Ngezana) last year then they will take it but they want to find a replacement first. They cannot ignore interest from Europe because it has it’s own good benefits and that’s why they will consider it if it’s good. And in this case it is a very good deal which will give the team a good financial boost as well,” said the source to the publication.

This could be a tough choice for Chiefs to make. One side you can argue du Preez will never be a prolific striker. He can be viewed as more a wide player with goal contributions. On the other side you can say that he hasn’t entered his peak yet. And could still prove to be that under better coaching. Keep or sell Khosi fans?
