Kaizer Chiefs look set to lose out to Mamelodi Sundowns in the race for a star Bafana Bafana midfielder!

Bongani Zungu looks set to make a spectacular return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The well traveled midfielder recently parted ways with French side Amiens.

According to reports, both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs were looking at signing Zungu.

Now, the latest reports suggest Mamelodi Sundowns have won the race to sign Bongani Zungu!

Bongani Zungu has formed part of Mamelodi Sundowns’ pre-season training camp according to reports.

“It now appears the 29-year-old is set for a return for a second spell at Chloorkop.” a SoccerLaduma report on the Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns target.

“With the player believed to be training with the club ahead of the new season, which kicks off on August 5 for Sundowns against Cape Town City.

“Playing in Europe has been a big priority for Bongani Zungu, as previously reported by the Siya crew.

“But Mamelodi Sundowns have been patiently waiting for the player to make a decision on where he will play his football next.

“Of the clubs in South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns have been leading the race for the former University of Pretoria, with Kaizer Chiefs having been linked as well.”

Should he indeed sign on the bottom line at the Brazilians, he’ll join the likes of Sipho Mbule and Ronwen Williams as New arrivals at the club.

Apart from Bongani Zungu training with the club, the Brazilians are also tipped to announce Abubeker Nassir and Abdelmounaim Boutouil.

Kaizer Chiefs on the other hand have made nine new acquisitions ahead of next season.

Zungu spent three years at Mamelodi Sundowns between 2013 and 2016.

He was an integral part of Pitso Mosimane’s serial winning Mamelodi Sundowns side.
