Despite their 2-0 victory over Maritzburg United on Wednesday, Kaizer Chiefs did appear at times to struggle, especially at set-pieces, during the match.

Kaizer Chiefs escaped set-piece punishment – Arthur Zwane

Arthur Zwane admitted they could’ve been punished for not dealing with the Team of Choice’s set-pieces effectively and ‘were let off the hook‘.

“I think it was the quality of the delivery from Keegan [Ritchie],” Arthur Zwane said.

“Yes, they could have easily punished us but they let us off the hook.

“We’ve got quite tall players in our defence. Daniel Cardoso, Siyabonga Ngezana, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, even when Tower [Eric Mathoho] is not there, we have tall players, [Phathutshedzo] Nange is tall.

“Going forward, as a team I don’t think we will need defenders. We are covered. Njabulo Ngcobo did quite well too. He was not bad considering he was out for some time. It was key for us to give him a run and he did well, but he started cramping and we had to substitute him.

“But I am not worried about the dead-ball situations. It is actually one of the strong points and that’s where we have also good players who can defend and attack in set plays.

“If we are to beef up as a club, I think we would maybe look for a striker, but at the moment I don’t think we are looking. We have a lot of players and we can maybe even go to the development team because we have boys who are promising,” Arthur Zwane added.
