ICYMI: Did you know Thulani Serero used to ball with the Arsenal captain?

OPINION: The choice between Jali and Serero for Kaizer Chiefs is so obvious

Serero on the Kaizer Chiefs radar?

Thulani Serero spent eight years on the European club scene and the entirety of it was in the Netherlands. It it all began with Ajax Amsterdam in 2011 after a €2.5m move from partner club Ajax Cape Town. He spent six years with the Dutch giants, notching 121 appearances for the club including 11 outings in the Champions League. His pedigree is beyond doubt. He’d add steel, know-how, influence and authority to proceedings at the base of that Amakhosi midfield. Maybe the Glamour Boys would even start to control matches and play them at their own pace. It would also be a huge statement of intent.

Serero and Jali with different levels of motivation

Obviously Chiefs have plenty other options on the market, but if they want a commanding central midfielder with bags of experience, Serero is a great option. The parallels between Thulani Serero and Andile Jali are obvious; both have won plenty of accolades in their career, and the pair were born just a day apart in April 1990.

However, Jali seems to be at the tail-end of his PSL career and somewhat distracted. Serero, on the other hand, should be revitalized and excited for a new challenge back in South Africa. What better task than to steer Kaizer Chiefs back to the pinnacle of the DStv Premiership?

Will Serero’s head be turned by an offer from Saudi Arabia though? If that’s the case, the Chiefs hierarchy better act quick.
