Kaizer Chiefs legend ‘takes over’ at struggling Swallows FC

A Kaizer Chiefs legend has been ‘asked’ to step in and help with preparing Swallows FC for the weekend game against Maritzburg United.

Fani Madida is currently calling the shots at the Swallows training grounds following the sacking of Brandon Truter and his entire technical team on Sunday night.

According to Swallows chairman David Mogashoa, Madida isn’t the interim coach or anything like that as he was just asked to fill the void.

However, Mogashoa said Madida will lead Swallows against Maritzburg United and conduct interviews in the event that the appointment of Truter’s successor takes longer than expected.

Madida’s position at Swallows is that of a technical advisor to the board and the technical team.

“But should that not happen or we face work permit issue if the coach is from outside the country, then Fani Madida will sit on the bench,” Mogashoa told Soccer Laduma.

WHY MADIDA IS SUITABLE IN THE INTERIM

Magoshoa said they opted for Madida in the interim simply because he is not new to the Swallows structures.

In 2019, Madida was asked to step in and try and steer the Swallows ship in the right direction following the sacking of Zeca Marques.

“He has been there in the structures and we have asked him to assist with the fitness of the players while we await the confirmation of our new coach,” said Mogashoa.

“But he is not the coach…the PSL manual insists that we need to have someone to do the interviews after the game and should we not have a coach ready by Saturday, then Fani will conduct the interviews,” added Mogashoa.
