Ngcobo is yet to make his debut for the club since arriving from Swallows FC at the start of the season despite being the best defender in the league last term.

Stuart Baxter’s decision to overlook Ngcobo has left a section of Chiefs fans frustrated, especially as the team continues to show no signs of improvement in defence.

According to Ngubane, Ngcobo wants to be a regular for Bafana Bafana but he understands he won’t achieve that if Baxter isn’t giving him a chance at Chiefs.

“Every player wants to play. So, automatically, when he’s not playing he can’t be happy. He’s the Defender of the Season… he wants to play for Bafana,” Ngubane told Sowetan.

“So, if he doesn’t get a chance to play at Chiefs, it is going to be difficult to get Bafana call-ups going forward,” he explained.

Ngubane further reiterated Ngcobo’s unhappiness at the current situation, and went on to say even Hugo Broos knows that the lanky defender is a talent.

“If you know football, you understand why Njabulo can’t be happy. Even I am not happy because Bafana coach [Hugo Broos] trusted him against Ghana, meaning he knows he’s talented,” said Ngubane.

With that said, Ngubane is hopeful that Baxter will soon give the 27-year-old defender a run, especially because Chiefs have been leaking goals at the back.

But he admitted that coaches do things differently, suggesting that he doesn’t blame Baxter for snubbing Ngcobo at Chiefs.

“You can’t change how coaches do their things, but we are hopeful the boy will crack it soon, especially because the team has been conceding goals.

“The coach already has the pressure because people are asking ‘how you can keep on conceding when you have the Defender of the Season on the bench?’ Hopefully, Njabulo will play soon,” added Ngubane.
