Kaizer Chiefs latest | Njabulo Ngcobo in midfield? Baxter weighs in!

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has not ruled out the possibility of playing new signing Njabulo Ngcobo in midfield this season.

Baxter hasn’t been able to accommodate the league’s best defender for 2020-21 season since his arrival at Naturena.

And while Ngcobo can easily dislodge either Daniel Cardoso or Erick Mathoho in the Amakhosi defence, Baxter doesn’t seem to think the lanky defender is ready.

Ngcobo was recently selected for the national team despite not featuring for Chiefs just yet, and Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos played him in midfield against Ghana.

Asked if he would consider giving Ngcobo a chance in midfield given the fact that he hasn’t been able to find him a spot in defence, Baxter said that’s a possibility.

However, he warned that Ngcobo playing as a midfielder would depend on how Chiefs play but he believes the former Swallows FC man can do well as he’s comfortable on the ball.

“Njabulo playing as a midfield player? Certainly, he is comfortable enough on the ball to play there,” Baxter told reporters.

“Certainly! If we were to play in a certain way, it would be an absolute possibility to play him as one of the midfield players,” added Baxter.

It remains to be seen if Ngcobo will get a place in Baxter’s matchday squad for Sunday’s league clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.
