Injuries & expiring contract: Is this the end for Billiat at Kaizer Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs talisman Khama Billiat has been ruled out of action for the rest of the current season with an injury as confirmed by the club.

Kaizer Chiefs talisman Khama Billiat has been ruled out of action for the rest of the current season with an injury as confirmed by the club.

Billiat has not featured for Chiefs since the team’s 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates on 29 October 2022 – he has missed six matches to date.

According to the Chiefs medical team, Billiat is suffering from a torn groin muscle and has had surgery to repair it.

“Currently, our injury list consists of Khama Billiat, who had surgery to repair a torn groin muscle. He’ll be out for the rest of the season,” said Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner.

HAS KHAMA BILLIAT PLAYED HIS LAST GAME FOR KAIZER CHIEFS?

Now, with Billiat out for the rest of the season, the biggest question is whether or not the former Warriors attacker has played his last game for Chiefs.

Billiat has struggled with injuries since his second season with Chiefs, and that alone negatively impacted his performances so much so that a section of club fans wanted him gone.

His form got better when Keagan Dolly arrived at Chiefs, and expectations were that he would slowly capitalise on his understanding with the Bafana Bafana international.

However, that hasn’t been the case, and with just 11 appearance and no goal this season, Billiat has undoubtedly made things difficult for himself to earn a new deal at Chiefs.

Billiat’s current deal expires in June, and with him out injured coupled with his below-par performances of late, he may well prepare himself for a possible exit.

To date, the 32-year-old has featured in 125 matches for Chiefs, scored 24 times while providing 29 assists – but that’s far lower compared to when he was at Sundowns.

At Sundowns, Billiat netted 47 goals and recorded 43 assists in just 140 competitive matches during his five-year stint.
