In a close season exodus, Chiefs released the likes forwards Samir Nurkovic, Bernard Parker as well as the misfiring Lazarous Kambole.

Chiefs bolstered attack

Chiefs then went into the market in an effort to replace those players, and ended up bolstering their attack with two forwards. The players in question being, of course, Ashley du Preez who signed for the Glamour Boys from Stellenbosch FC as well as Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana who joined much later in the transfer window as a free agent.

While Bimenyimana has been effective at Chiefs, scoring six goals since his arrivals, he has also proven to be injury prone. The player picked up an injury that saw him miss the Soweto Derby, where Amakhosi created enough chances to stretch their winning margin to beyond one goal. The culprit in front of goal on the day was du Preez, who failed to convert two guilt-edged opportunities which has been a lingering feature of his game since making the move to Naturena.

Still searching for a striker

In the week leading to their MTN8 second leg semi-final loss, Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane did not hide the fact that they were still in the market for a striker. Now according to KickOff.com the latest striker to be invited for trials at Naturena is Stanley Ratifo. Ratifo is a dual national who was born in Germany to a Mozambican father.

Ratifo is already a Mozambican international since 2017 and is familiar with South Africa having playoff a COSAFA Cup in the country before. He plies his trade for 1 CfR Pforzheim in the German lower division. He has only played his football at that level and it remains to be seen if Chiefs would take a punt on a 28-year-old who is yet to prove himself at that level.
