New Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter says his tenure will not be marked by an attempt to roll back the changes made by the coaches that took over from him.

Baxter was the last coach to lead Kaizer Chiefs to the league title but says that the current Premiership poses a bigger challenge.

The Englishman has reportedly signed a two-year contract with an option to have it extended by a further two seasons.

Stuart Baxter happy to be back

“I am feeling very comfortable with the decision to come back here. Since leaving Chiefs, I have been all over the world, but obviously I have been Bafana Bafana coach and the SuperSport (United) in the interim also, so people have known where I was at. I was in India and I was back in Sweden.

“It’s important that people understand the coaches who were here before me are not bad coaches. They are good coaches. Some of them are top coaches in this country So this is not about me coming in and dismantling everything that’s been done. This is about me trying to find a better balance and about maybe rebuilding the culture around the team as well.

Kaizer Chiefs have moved forward a lot

“I think Kaizer Chiefs have moved forward a lot since I was here last time. This time there will be a lot of expectations. I’ll have to manage that. This time it’s a tougher league. The league has improved in terms of the bottom teams are no pushovers. They are all tight games. It will be different. The game has moved forward, the game has changed.

“I remember when I came last time and spoke about transitions and people laughed. Now it’s an integral part of everybody’s game. So, I’ve got to find out what’s new.”

Baxter is expected to be in the technical area when Kaizer Chiefs face Wydad Casablanca away in Morocco for their Caf Champions League semi-final first leg next weekend.
