Mashiane has hardly feature for Chiefs under Stuart Baxter this season and the veteran British mentor seems to have made a decision one his future.

Mashiane was a regular last season

Mashiane enjoyed a good share of confidence and subsequently game time under previous coach, Gavin Hunt, forming a key part of Chiefs left side of attack more often that not when fully fit. A utility player who can also operate either as a left or left midfielder, Mashiane had even featured as an inverted winger for the Amakhosi last season.

So pivotal to the plans of the previous Chiefs regime last season, that Mashiane would play from the start, on the left wing as the Glamour Boys took on Al Ahly in last season’s CAF Champions League final. His red card that severely handicapped Chiefs against the Egyptian giants and its effects on him were well documented and they seem to have given him less opportunities to redeem himself this season.

Has struggled to break into Stuart Baxter’s side

Since the start of the current season, Mashiane has struggled for game time. Perhaps what helped him and his cause was the FIFA transfer ban that prevented Chiefs from signing players last season. In the off season though, they would maximise on the opportunity to sign players again, dipping into the transfer market to sign the likes of Keagan Dolly and Kgaogelo Sekgota who have both predictably seen more game time than him so far.

Source confirms Chiefs are looking for loan options

So that, according to sources speaking to The Citizen has prompted the Chiefs management to consider loaning Mashiane out.

“They are trying to get him a good team he can go to and get more game time so he can have some experience under his belt. There are a few options they are considering but no decision has been made as yet. “They are doing everything in consultation with the player so he is also comfortable with the move. It is unfortunate that he has not made much progress this season after his promising showing last season,” confirmed the source.

Would this move be the right one for Chiefs or would it be better for Mashiane to fight for his place?
