Kaizer Chiefs hat-trick hero against Royal AM is now ready to shift his focus to the DStv Compact Cup which gets underway on 22 January.

Mduduzi Shabalala hogged the headlines as he netted three goals in Amakhosi’s 5-4 loss to Royal AM in the DStv Diski Challenge last weekend.

And while he admitted he couldn’t celebrate his personal milestone as Chiefs were on the losing side, the young Shabalala revealed it was a great feeling scoring thrice.

He dedicated his first of the three goals scored against Royal AM to his late sister Thandi whom he said past away two weeks ago.

“It felt so great to score a hattrick. The goals came quick. We were losing and I was able to score the first goal, which I dedicate to my sister Thembi, who passed away two weeks ago. The second goal I scored, our third goal, brought us back into the game.”

Shabalala told the Chiefs website.

Shabalala, who was on the bench for the first team against Sekhukhune United in December 2021, is one of the Chiefs players selected in the DStv Compact Cup.

And he’s already looking forward to it – and perhaps use it as a stepping stone to get into the Chiefs first team.

“I was happy to be named man of the match and I am also pleased to be selected for the DStv Compact Cup, which means that I simply have to up my game.

“This performance is definitely a boost to my confidence before the DStv Compact Cup. Getting voted in shows that I am playing good football and that people love seeing me play. I will keep on fighting and doing the right things,” added Shabalala.

“I could not express how happy I was to have been part of the first team. The chance will come, I will get the opportunity to play for the first team. My friends and family were very excited seeing my name on the teamsheet,” concluded Shabalala.
