Kaizer Chiefs: Njabulo Blom’s contract can be renewed on ONE condition

Five massive problems facing Kaizer Chiefs

Players with expiring contracts

Six first team players, as it stands, have contracts expiring in June 2023. Five of them might be the wrong side of 30, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still offer value to the football club. Chief among them are Itumeleng Khune and Sifiso Hlanti who Amakhosi can’t really afford to lose. Khama Billiat, on the other hand, has underperformed with the club so far.

Strikers that don’t score goals

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has scored six goals this season, fair enough, but four of them have been from the penalty spot. Ashley Du Preez continues to be wasteful in front of goal. Now, as a result, the club is being linked with some 32-year-old nobody from Hungary who can’t get a game in Europe. With respect to Bálint Bajner, is this now the pond where Chiefs are fishing?

OPINION: Cristiano Ronaldo will play in THIS league next

Njabulo Blom

The 22-year-old’s contract is expiring, so he’s actually already been covered in this article. However, Blom is a separately massive issue all on his own. Kaizer Chiefs simply cannot afford to lose one of the hottest prospects in South African football for free. If they lose him to a direct rival, that would compound the pain. It wouldn’t be making a great statement either.

No trophies in 7 years

Yeah, sorry to rub it in, but these are the facts. The last time that the mighty Kaizer Chiefs won silverware was in 2015 when they held the DStv Premiership title aloft. Yes, they came close to doing it again in 2019-20, but if you’re not first, you’re last. The prospects of claiming trophies in 2022-23 don’t look particularly good either.

Underachievers

Plenty of players on the books at Kaizer Chiefs are overpaid and underachieving. Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly illustrate that point perfectly. The solution to that problem isn’t straightforward, but one certainly needs to be found and it needs to be found soon.
