Kaizer Chiefs have delayed their decision to extend Njabulo Ngcobo’s contract and now rival clubs are circling to sign him.

Ngcobo will leave Kaizer Chiefs, will they regret it?

30-year-old central defender Njabulo Ngcobo will likely be leaving Chiefs for free after the Glamour Boys allowed his contract to wind down.

“Kaizer Chiefs is a professional club, they communicate about their intentions. Unfortunately, they have not said anything about Njabulo Ngcobo,” Sboniso Ngubane (Ngcobo’s agent) previously told SABC Sport. “We are in talks with different clubs in the DStv Premiership, including AmaZulu FC,” he added. The agent also added that Sekhukhune had entered the fray.

“When SABC Sport contacted his manager Sboniso Ngubane on Sunday, he did confirm talks with Sekhukhune United, but refused to give away much regarding the player’s next move,” the report said.

“We are still negotiating with them,” Ngubane told the public broadcaster’s sports desk,” the report added. “The final decision is expected to be announced before the end of June, with Chiefs also set to make pronouncements regarding changes to their squad, including a new coach.”

Chiefs have a new playmaker in their crosshairs

A source close to Soccer-Laduma has described Chawanangwa Kaonga’s attributes and what he would bring to the party, should Chiefs sign the Malawian midfielder. Earlier this week the same publication reported that the Zanaco FC player could soon be a Glamour Boy. He’s got 15 caps for his country.

“Chawanangwa (Kaonga) is a very good attacking midfielder who can play as a second striker and that is why the team is looking at him. He has played in South Africa before and he knows the environment though he played in the First Division with TS Sporting. He is also playing for a good team in Zanaco FC in Zambia and his experience with the Malawi national team would come handy for Chiefs as well,” said the source.

“There are indications that there could be a lot of change at the club (Chiefs) in the new season and that’s why they are apparently looking at new players who they could bring in. Yes, at the moment Malawian midfielder Chawanangwa Kaonga is one of those players. Actually, he is not the only one but he is part of the group that the management and all involved are looking at with the possibility of signing him,” the source concluded.
