Kaizer Chiefs strikers tend to get a lot of stick from fans around the country. Here me out though, they need better service.

There’s been a national obsession with Kaizer Chiefs and their need for strikers, but I’m here to paint the issue in a different light.

If you have good strikers, you’ll score more goals, sure. But a football team also needs to supply high-quality chances for its strikers in the first place, and Chiefs are not doing that on a regular basis.

Four attacking midfielders Kaizer Chiefs should be monitoring

Here are five creative midfielders who could immediately raise the bar for Amakhosi in that regard, either by supplying high quality chances or getting on the score sheet regularly themselves.

Mduduzi Mdantsane

The 27-year-old Cape Town City man hasn’t set the world on fire so far this season, but a change of scenery could be what’s needed for him to kickstart his career.

Pule Mmodi

The links to Pule Mmodi are hardly new, and Chiefs would love to get a deal for the 29-year-old over the line. He’s got all of the know-how of this eague that would enable him to flourish at a big side like Chiefs.

Fortune Makaringe

What’s the best way to annoy your rivals? Try and sign one of their most reliable and valuable performers. Makaringe excels for the Buccaneers in a varety of positions, either tucking in centrally or creating width. The 29-year-old is a top player and Amakhosi should consider an audacious move.

Spesihle Maduna

At the other end of the experience and age spectrum, AmaZulu’s 22-year-old Sphesihle Maduna is an intruguing option. The Usuthu man can operate on both flanks and through the middle, making him an interesting and versatile option. He’s only made 7 DStv Prem appearances this term, but it feels as though there’s a lot more to come from him.

Getting the best out of existing and key personnel

Not only do high quality creative midfielders supply better chances for strikers, but they also lessen the burden on holding midfielders like Njabulo Blom. He is simply expected to do too much in the centre of the park right now at age 22.

He should be focusing on specialising as a defensive midfielder. Because he’s a gifted young player, though, he’s being expected to be an all-rounder. Let’s see what the Kaizer Chiefs board has up its sleeve.
