LATEST TWIST: Chiefs soon set to finalise Sithebe signing

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly tabled an improved offer for Siyethemba Sithebe, who could put pen to paper early this week.

According to news that recently emerged out of the KwaZulu-Natal side’s camp, Sithebe is no longer part of the club’s plans, and a deal with Amakhosi is close to being concluded.

It comes as AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu hit out at Chiefs, stating that the Soweto giants weren’t honest in the deal involving Sithebe, and could take the case to court.

According to Soccer Laduma, though, Chiefs have nonetheless upped the ante for Sithebe, with sources revealing that a meeting between the Chiefs and AmaZulu hierarchy took place this past weekend.

It’s now reported that discussions are at an advanced stage, with a deal possibly set to be concluded on Monday.

Previously, Zungu insisted Chiefs did not follow proper procedures and already approached Sithebe before 1 January.

“Yes, Sithebe is going to Chiefs if they have concluded everything with him or at the very least at the end of the season,” Zungu said, as per SunSport.

“If they want to take him now, we informed them that this is what we want, and we still reserve our rights to take legal actions to the highest court.

“Chiefs weren’t honest in the deal because they agreed terms without the January window being opened in signing a pre-contract (when the player is left with six-month).

“In December, when we were on holiday, they had completed everything with him and you know the window only opened on 1 January. “

Zungu has already made it clear that Sithebe will not play for AmaZulu again.

“He won’t wear the Usuthu jersey again in the second half of the season,” the Usuthu president added.

“That shows we are not very happy about the way he’s leaving the club.

“This one exploded and it smells bad, and the reason for that is because of his agent and the club that wanted him.”

Having finished last season as runners-up in the DStv Premiership, the current campaign has been more of a struggle for AmaZulu.

Although they are in fifth place in the log with 27 points after 20 matches, they have played as many as three more games than a number of teams below them in the standings.

Benni McCarthy’s men will next be in action in a blockbuster Nedbank Cup Round of 32 match away against Orlando Pirates on Sunday, 6 February at 15:00.

Thereafter, AmaZulu will travel to Sudan for their first CAF Champions League group stage match against Raja Casablanca on Friday, 11 February.

Their next league assignment will be at home against TS Galaxy on Wednesday, 16 February at 17:00.
