Kaizer Chiefs fans will love the latest Siyethemba Sithebe transfer update!

The Kaizer Chiefs pursuit of Amazulu midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe seems to have taken yet another twist this week.

Sithebe was largely expected to join Chiefs this window before it was revealed that Amazulu’s likely financial demands would mean Amakhosi would be willing to wait until the end of the season, when he becomes a free agent. 

January move was supposed to be a done deal

Various sources had been so sure that Sithebe would join Chiefs during this January transfer window, that they had him down to be unveiled in the first week of the window. That, however, quickly turned into “coming weeks” for some publications.

But what has since been established by reputable platforms, is that Sithebe has indeed signed a pre-contract with Chiefs, that will see him arrive at Naturena eventually. In fact, it was largely taken for granted that, his arrival would be in January until the latest from Amazulu chairman Sandile Zungu. Zungu had admitted defeated on the player staying at Usuthu firstly, but stopped short of stating that he would be signing for Amakhosi as per reports. 

Amazulu sang a different tune

While many were expecting Zungu to pave the way for Sithebe to join Chiefs this window, he instead spoke of different solutions to the matter. Those included Sithebe staying on at Amazulu and training until the end of the season or going out on loan. But nowhere did he mention the sale of the player. It would also appear to be unlikely that he would loan the player to the Glamour Boys as that would be seen as strengthening direct rivals.

But according to The Citizen sources, Chiefs seem to have smelled blood after hearing Zungu’s possible solutions to the Sithebe saga and that has made them change their mind about having to wait for next season. It is now thought that they are ready to pounce now! 

Chiefs now working overtime to sign Sithebe immediately

“They are now working around the clock to try and negotiate an early release for him so he can join them now. They were prepared to wait until the end of the season but when rumours broke last week that Usuthu management are unhappy with the developments and this could lead to Sithebe being sidelined, they decided to negotiate. It is an understandable situation facing AmaZulu because any team would not want to rely on a player who is about to leave,”  said the source.

The last time Chiefs found themselves in a similar situation, was when they signed Reeve Frosler on a pre-contract from Bidvest Wits. They were eventually able to negotiate an early release for the player. Will they be able to convince Amazulu to do the same with Sithebe?
