Kaizer Chiefs are a different beast, says Arthur Zwane

Kaizer Chiefs are a different beast because of the pressure that comes with coaching them, and that’s according to Arthur Zwane.

Zwane has been in charge of the Chiefs senior team on a permanent basis since the start of the season, and under his leadership, the team has been blowing hot and cold.

Amakhosi’s 1-0 over Orlando Pirates on 29 October was certainly enough to save Zwane’s job as he was under immense pressure going into that encounter.

Asked how things have been since assuming the role of head coach at Chiefs, Zwane admitted it has been tough and stressful.

However, he understands that the pressure comes with the demands from millions of Chiefs supporters around the world but lucky for him, Zwane has been with the club for 22 years.

But apart from being at Chiefs that long, Zwane is banking on the knowledge he continues to gain from the coaching courses.

Furthermore, Zwane said every ‘mentally strong’ coach needs the right players that can easily cope with the pressure at Chiefs.

“It’s been quite tough, very stressful and understandable at the same time. It comes with the demands of being the head coach at Kaizer Chiefs. Luckily for me, I grew up in this environment, as a player and now as a coach. I’ve seen it all. I’ve experienced it all,” Zwane told reporters.

“The reason we attended coaching courses is to have that ability to see things and be able to come up with a plan. We can’t call ourselves tacticians if we can’t plan. So, we’ll look at how we can balance our squad and make sure that we have a team that can compete,” added Zwane.

“Kaizer Chiefs are a different beast altogether. If you are not strong mentally or you’re not a strong character, with talent alone, you’re never going to survive. You need players that can cope with the pressure. That’s where we come in as coaches because we’ve been here and we know the amount of pressure that comes with being a player at Kaizer Chiefs,” concluded Zwane.
