Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has confirmed that the club will be without forward Lebogang Manyama for the game against Chippa United.

Chiefs thin upfront

The absence of Manyama will undoubtedly come as a major setback for Baxter, as the forward had just only recently returned to playing. Furthermore, Chiefs have been rather light in the striking department this season, and having just lost key hitman Samir Nurkovic to a long term injury, Manyama had been favourite to fill in, in a false nine role.

“The lads coming back from Bafana Bafana are in good spirits, obviously after the good results (against Ethiopia in the back-to-back World Cup qualifiers), they are okay. And the others also representing their national teams came back fully fit, so they are all training properly,” said Baxter of the Chiefs camp

“Samir (Nurkovic) has had an operation and obviously it’s too soon to say anything. Siya (Ngezana), Leo Castro and Dumisani Zuma are all working hard to get back – but they are nowhere near playing.” Baxter concluded with regards to injuries.

Saturday will also see the return of former Chiefs Gavin Hunt, to the FNB Stadium for the first time since his sacking by the club before the conclusion of the previous season. Hunt had previously signed a three-year deal at Amakhosi but failed to see out a year period. He will be desperate to get one over his former employers in the colours of Chippa United.
