Are referees favouring Kaizer Chiefs? Steve Barker seemed to think so after his side went down against the Amakhosi last weekend.

Chiefs were given a penalty and a numerical advantage on the day after Stellenbosch’s Sage Stephens was sent off for a handball outside of his box.

Barker made a bold claim that referees are giving decisions in favour of Kaizer Chiefs however an expert former referee disagrees.

“I watched the match live at the stadium. I compared the game to other matches. And tactically Chiefs has got fast runners or speedy wingers,” Hlungwani told Metro FM as quoted by FarPost.

“You look at Ashley Du Preez, Christian Saile and Keagan Dolly, those are fast runners. Many times defenders are caught off guard. Steve Barker must just do his job.

“Red card for Sage Stephens was a good decision. Two goalkeepers have got red cards because of Dolly. He is a smart player.”

What did Steve Barker say?

“One must congratulate Kaizer Chiefs, they seem to be a team that puts others under a lot of pressure when you getting, 11, 12 penalties a season. Last six matches, three red cards in the first half to the opposition,” an irritated Steve Barker said after the match as quoted by IdiskiTimes.

“Well done to them. They must be doing something right and creating problems for the opposition – I’m disappointed in the referee today.

“I think Kaizer Chiefs had double-figure freekicks around the box. Dolly has three or four pots, Mashiane, Shabalala had some chances to take.

“I’m not denying some of them were freekicks but I’m not sure why we didn’t get any in that final third around the box where Iqraam Rayners was held on many occasions.

“I’m not to sure what it is, maybe it’s the black and gold jersey that is intimidating, the crowd intimidating.”
