Msimango has emerged as a target following Chiefs’ release of long-serving centre back Daniel Cardoso and the placement of Akumu Agay on the transfer list.

Surplus centre back options

Even with those players leaving the first team set up, Chiefs still have no shortage of centre back options as things stand. The club can still call upon the likes Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Eric Mathoho, Njabulo Ngcobo, Austin Dube, Siyabonga Ngezena as well as the newly signed Zitha Kwinika who can operate in that position and right back. The Glamour Boys still harbouring the ambition of signing Msimango shows that they think he would come as an upgrade to the current crop of centre halves they have on their books.

The potential addition of Msimango could also be a signal from Chiefs that there could still be at least one more centre back culling ahead of the new season. Otherwise, it would make very little sense to have as many as seven centre backs on their books, unless they were to switch to mainly a system that allows them to play three centre-backs at a time.

Galaxy confirm they are willing to sell Msimango

Two weeks ago Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi gave interested teams like Chiefs a boost, when he mentioned to Soccer-Laduma that the club would not stand in Msimango’s way if an offer was brought to the table.

“Given’s contract ends in 2024. There’s been no formal interest other than rumours and all that. I don’t take rumours seriously. But generally, and I have said this to the players, our club is not in the luxury position of refusing player transfers or offers for players at this stage. We are still in the formative stages in the Premier League and we are a humble club. We are duty bound, if there is a good offer for the player and the club, to give them a good opportunity. It applies to Given and to everyone else,” Sukazi said.

Journalists believe there is genuine interest

Now in addition to that, Power FM sports journalist Skepe Matsebane tweeted that “Kaizer Chiefs confident of landing the signatute of Given Msimango from TS Galaxy.”. Furthermore, football journalist Tiyani wa ka Mabasa also tweeted that Amakhosi mean business and now want to add Msimango.
