Kaizer Chiefs will rejig the entire club from top to bottom this winter. Not only will there be a new manager, but fresh new player faces are also expected.

New attackers needed

In the silly season, Amakhosi have been linked to every player and his dog. However, some rumours are more credible than others. Iqraam Rayners, Andy Boyeli and Lebo Mothiba are candidates to fill the number 9 vacancy, while Oswin AppollisElias Mokwana and Luther Singh could all add quality from the wide areas. Ashley Cupido is also an option.

Defensive structure is also important

SuperSport’s 23-year-old utility man Kegan Johannes is a target. However, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are also keen so Amakhosi might struggle to get a deal over the line for the talented defender. Nigeria and Chippa goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has a massive price tag so if Chiefs are scared off in that regard, they could turn to Richards Bay stopper Salim Magoola as an alternative. As far as the problem left-back position goes, veteran Sifiso Hlanti will leave so Chiefs need reinforcements. Fawaaz Basadien has signed a new deal with Stellenbosch but that won’t deter them from making a solid offer for the marauding defender.

Petersen to leave?

The same FarPost report indicates that Chippa could swoop for second-choice Chiefs ‘keeper Brandon Petersen. The initial offer was an exchange proposal including 28-year-old Super Eagles star Stanley Nwabali, another player and cash, but Amakhosi rejected it as Nwabali doesn’t fit their style, and they were also put off by the steep R30 million asking price. The Glamour Boys have now installed Bruce Bvuma as their first choice. Petersen, meanwhile, has extended his contract by two years with Chiefs. Will he stay or will he go?
