Kaizer Chiefs being “young” is a myth

Ertugral has dismissed the perception that Chiefs have a young squad, saying the average age at Naturena is 26.

“The current squad is often mentioned as a young team. It’s a perception. The team is on the age scale of the current PSL season at position with an average of 26.3 years.

“There are young players in the team, but these don’t make the team a “young team” he added.

The above quotes are an excerpt from a recent LinkedIn post penned by the Turkish tactician. He hasn’t held back either in his criticism of his former employers. Ertugral had two stints as Chiefs head coach, from 1999 to 2003 and then 2007 to 2009.

In light of Ertugral’s comments, can Chiefs continue to fall back on this “we are a young team” excuse? He has made some solid points.
