Swallows FC chairman David Mogashoa has confirmed that a ‘strategic’ partnership between his side and Kaizer Chiefs exists regarding player transfers.

According to Mogashoa, Swallows FC are repaying Kaizer Chiefs for their help when the club got relegated from the PSL by giving them a first-option to purchase any of the players they’re after.

The Amakhosi signed no less than three Swallows players in the form Njabulo Ngcobo, Sifiso Hlanti and Kgaogelo Sekgota during the recently concluded transfer window.

The reason behind Kaizer Chiefs beating their rivals to Njabulo Ngcobo’s signature has since been revealed by Swallows chairman David Mogashoa.

Mogashoa opens up on transfer agreement with Kaizer Chiefs

“We had to come to the party as well in our relationship with Kaizer Chiefs. An example is Njabulo Ngcobo, a very good player that, ideally, we should not have lost his services,” Swallows chairman David Mogashoa told SoccerLaduma.

“But because Chiefs were interested and we appreciate what they did for us while we were in the lower division, we did not hesitate to say, ‘it’s fine, you can have him.’ But we wanted something in return. I know some supporters are getting worried with the relationship and they shouldn’t be. That relationship ends outside the field of play, we are rivals.

“If you recall, Kaizer Chiefs didn’t beat us last season. I’ve said it before, Chiefs will get first preference on any player that Swallows is willing to sell, not that we will not sell to other clubs. People asked if Njabulo will go to Sundowns, and I said Chiefs will get first option.”

Swallows themselves have benefitted from Kaizer Chiefs in terms of players with the likes of Given Thibedi, Yagan Sasman and Sizwe Twala going the opposite way during recent seasons.
