Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns to battle it for Thulani Serero?
Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are both believed to be interested in former Bafana Bafana international midfielder, Thulani Serero.

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are both believed to be interested in former Bafana Bafana international midfielder, Thulani Serero.

Serero is set to leave his United Arab Emirates side Al Jazira Club when his contract expires this June, with both Chiefs and Sundowns thought to be interested.

It may have come to a shock for many when Serero’s impending departure was announced, as the player had commanded fan favourite status at Al Jazira during his time in their midfield. But being at the age of 33 as well as seeing the team finish in fifth place, with 11 points separating them and the eventual winners of the division, the club management have clearly seen this as an opportunity to start afresh, with the coach Marcel Keizer also set to see his contract not being renewed at the club.

Now Serero is believed to be of interest to both Chiefs and Sundowns, who are rumoured to have expressed that both to the player himself as well as his agent. But according to sources speaking to Soccer-Laduma, there could be a huge stumbling block for both in their pursuit of the veteran midfielder.
Chiefs and Sundowns interested in Serero
“The interest has always been there. There have been enquiries from Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns before and even now that they know he will be a free agent, I can tell you that both teams have been in touch with his agent and the player himself but nothing has come out yet. They were waiting for the season to finish and see if Al Jazira will renew his contract and since there is nothing yet they want to try and bring him back home,” said the source to the same publication.

It would come as a surprise if Chiefs were, indeed interested in signing Serero regarding his age. Sundowns, however, have proven that they sign players according to quality and what they believe an individual could bring to the system. Another advantage Sundowns have is that they can probably offer more money to Serero.
