Josef Zinnbauer’s final words as Orlando Pirates coach revealed!

Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer tendered his shock resignation on Monday, citing the fact he’s been away from his family for the last two years.

Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer tendered his shock resignation on Monday, citing the fact he’s been away from his family for the last two years.

The 51-year-old German took over as Buccaneers coach in December 2019 and helped steer the team to a third-place finish in his first half-season in charge, finishing seven points shy of champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

He followed that up by winning the MTN8 title in the 2020/21 campaign with Orlando Pirates again finishing the league season in third place – this time around 17 points behind winners Mamelodi Sundowns.

Zinnbauer commented on his resignation on the official Orlando Pirates website and gave his reasons for his decision to part ways with the Soweto giants.

“I would like to thank the Chairman and management for the opportunity they have given me.

“Unfortunately, my time at the Club has come to an end. I have enjoyed my time here and would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the supporters.

“I have spent the last two years away from my family and for this reason, I have decided to hand in my resignation.

“I would like to wish the Club and its supporters all the best for the future.”

Zinnbauer’s decision has left Orlando Pirates scrambling to fill the coaching void ahead of their opening match of the new season at home against Stellenbosch FC on Saturday, 21 August.

Kick-off at the Orlando Stadium is at 15:00.
