In doing so, Germany’s Josef Zinnbauer – who coincidentally happens to be 50 years old – set a new record for the club in the Premier Soccer League era.

It was Zinnbauer’s 30th victory from his 50 matches in charge to date since he joined the team in December 2019.

His 60% win record the best of any Orlando Pirates coach in their first 50 matches in the PSL era.

The other 20 matches have seen the Buccaneers draw 14 and lose only six.

It is a better win percentage than second-placed Kosta Papic (56%).

Behind them on the list are Micho Sredojevic (50%), Roger de Sa and Eric Tinkler (both 48%) and Ruud Krol (44%).

Orlando Pirates fans will be hoping Josef Zinnbauer keeps up his success with the club in their next match this weekend – the Soweto derby against arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

Kick-off at the FNB Stadium on Sunday, 21 March is at 15:00.
