Itumeleng Khune says he is nowhere near ready to hang up his gloves despite struggling for game-time in recent seasons at Kaizer Chiefs.

The 34-year-old former Bafana Bafana first-choice ‘keeper has fallen down the pecking order with Amakhosi with Daniel Akpeyi now coach Stuart Baxter preferred choice.

But, as reported by The South African website, Khune excelled when turning out for Warriors FC in last weekend’s DStv Compact Cup semi-finals.

Speaking to iDiski Times, Itumeleng Khune explained that he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

“I’ll retire when I’m older than [Parma goalkeeper Gianluigi] Buffon.

“Buffon is how old now? [42] Yeah, so I’ll retire after him. I still have maybe 10 more years.

“To be quite honest, I’m making a good investment in myself, even investing in the gym at home.

“I do a lot of extra at my workplace and even when I get home I’m motivated to do extra to be in good shape because obviously my body is my investment.

“When I invest in my body, it can take me to 40+, so that’s what I’m praying for.

“It’s in my hands, I have to work hard to achieve that.”

Itumeleng Khune, who this week reached the one million follower mark on Instagram, will turn 35 on 20 June 2022.
