Iqraam Rayners shocked to discover links with Chiefs

Stellenbosch FC striker Iqraam Rayners has expressed shock at the news linking him with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.

Stellenbosch FC striker Iqraam Rayners is shocked at the news that he is wanted by Kaizer Chiefs, stating that the reports are untrue but pure speculation.

The Western Cape-born hitman, Rayners has always made headlines as far as his next move, and speculation indicated that he was tracked by Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs – but he is shocked.

Among other clubs reportedly keen to sign Iqraam Rayners are Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns but he says none of the reports are true.

The Bafana Bafana striker, Rayners, who has had outstanding second-half displays for Stellenbosch has laughed off the rumours linking him with Chiefs, Pirates, and Sundowns.

Rayners suggested that the media is responsible for the speculation and set the record that he doesn’t know anything about moving to the Gauteng Big Three.

He wrapped up the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season on a high by clinching the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament award.

“I don’t know anything about me joining Chiefs, Pirates, and Sundowns. It’s just rumours. People put their own stuff in articles. I’ve never heard anything from all these teams. I will remain a Stellenbosch player for the new season,” Rayners told SowetanLIVE.

The 27-year-old striker says he will spend his money wisely and invest in property after bagging a cool R150 000 cheque for his efforts in the Ke Yona competition.

Rayners revealed that he has already bought two properties in Cape Town and Gauteng while he looks to remain a top finisher for the Cape Winelands-based Stellies.

“I already have two properties, one in Joburg and one in Cape Town…I will save up this money towards buying another property,” Rayners added.

“It was a nice feeling for me to win that award. I am very proud of myself and I am thankful to my teammates because without them I wouldn’t have won it.”

After joining SuperSport United in July 2020 and struggling to hit the ground running, Rayners returned to Stellenbosch in January and netted an impressive 15 goals from 14 matches in all competitions.

Based on his goalscoring prowess, there is no doubt that rumours surfaced that the likes of Sundowns, Pirates, and Chiefs were reportedly keen to land his signature.
