Andile Jali’s Sundowns contract comes to an end at the end of the current season, and as reported by KickOff, the club is understandably keen to retain his services.

However, also according to the report, both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have notably still been keeping a close eye on the player’s contract situation.

Touching on this topic, Jali’s agent Mike Makaab has now told FARPost that contract extension talks have begun with Sundowns, while highlighting that both parties are willing to extend their relationship.

Although it appears that a contract extension could be on the cards, Makaab did acknowledge there was interest from elsewhere.

“Yes, there is an interest from both local and clubs abrodad,” Makaab confirmed.

Sundowns currently sit at the top of the domestic league table with nine wins from their opening 12 games, with their latest positive results certainly coming as a much-needed boost after the club’s elimination at the semi-final stage of the MTN8.

One of the big question marks hovering over Sundowns, however, has been the absence of superstar striker Peter Shalulile, particularly after coach Rhulani Mokwena revealed that he was battling with a complicated muscular injury.

It came at a time when some reports and rumours had suggested Shalulile was not training as he sought to make an exit from the club, but those rumours have been emphatically dismissed.

SUNDOWNS LOOK WELL-PLACED TO DEFEND THEIR LEAGUE TITLE

By the sounds of it, the star striker could well be back when Sundowns resume their DStv Premiership campaign with a mouth-watering clash against Pirates in Pretoria on 31 December (5.30pm).

“There were players who came (back) from injuries such as Terrence Mashego, Peter Shalulile, [Abubeker] Nasir, Haashim Domingo with something that was unfortunate, which happened at the Carling Black Label Cup and also with [Erwin] Saavedra,” Mokwena said, as quoted by TimesLive, as the team returned to training this week.

“These are players who have managed to get a bit of catch-up and we tried to accelerate their recovery so that hopefully by the time we resume the league towards the end of this month we are able to have a more extensive list of players to choose from. Incredible appreciation (must go to) the medical and conditioning department for working when everybody was in a bit of recess.”
