Gavin Hunt reserved special praise for former Kaizer Chiefs starlet Darrel Matsheke.

Matsheke scored the winning penalty for Stellenbosch FC in Saturday’s Carling Knockout Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The 24-year-old midfielder joined Stellenbosch at the beginning of the campaign after being abruptly offloaded by the Glamour Boys.

It was Gavin Hunt who gave Matsheke his big break at Naturena back in 2020 and the former Chiefs coach still holds the midfielder in high regard.

We have enough quality – Johnson

“Look I think we have enough quality in the team, I just think they have not been given enough opportunities as individuals and I think the way we assess them, or the way we analyse them as part of the Chiefs family,” Johnson told iDiskiTimes

“I think that needs to be a little better between myself and my coaching staff. Because then we can give them more, they can be more positive towards themselves.

“If you did come to Kaizer Chiefs as an average player, then we will make you a better player. I think we need to get in their skin right now and there are good players.”
