Kaizer Chiefs took the lead through Keagan Dolly in the 49th minute after an error from Thulani Hlatshwayo.

Linda Mntambo then equalised for Pirates in the 87th minute before another Orlando Pirates defender, Olisa Ndah, gave away a needless penalty, which Dolly converted in stoppage time to snatch all three points.

The Buccaneers came out on the losing side despite enjoying 65 percent of the possession and also having the territorial advantage.

Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids said post-match that the better side lost on the day – and Broos agreed.

“I find Orlando Pirates were the better team and it was by a mistake of a player [Nigerian centre-back Olisa Ndah] that they lost the game,” Hugo Broos said in his characteristically straightforward manner.

Dolly has been rewarded for his sparkling form with a call-up to the national team for their 2022 Soccer World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe at FNB Stadium on Thursday, 11 November.

Hugo Broos added that was delighted to see Dolly going from strength to strength.

“I was very happy again for Dolly that he scored two times, okay one a penalty, but he scored twice,” Broos said.

“The confidence will be there and he can be an important player for us in the game against Zimbabwe.”

Kick-off on Thursday is at 21:00.
